Uterine Fibroids

What are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine Fibroids are noncancerous tumors that grow in and around the uterus and are influenced by circulating estrogen levels. They affect 1 in 5 women during childbearing years and incidence can increase with age. While many women with fibroids experience no symptoms, 25-50% may have pelvic pain, painful intercourse, or increased urinary frequency. As hormone-dependent growths, fibroids typically resolve after menopause.
