DUTCH: What inspired you to become a healthcare practitioner?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: My dad, a pharmacist, owned his own pharmacy. All six of my siblings and I worked closely alongside him. Three of us became registered pharmacists.  Pharmacy is all I’ve ever known. But about 12 years ago, I realized patients weren’t getting better but were receiving more medicine. Why was this? And that started my journey into treating the root cause of chronic diseases and functional medicine.

DUTCH: What is your training?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 1983. Most of my 36 years of practice have been spent in retail pharmacy. For the past 12  years, my focus has been on wellness, prevention of disease and Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy. I’ve attended multiple Bio-Identical Hormone seminars thru A4M and PCCA and have earned a certification in BHRT.

DUTCH: Describe your medical background/ practice?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I work in a retail pharmacy but have an office where I see patients daily for evaluations regarding hormone imbalances and other health issues. My goal for each patient is to be healthy, happy and hormonally balanced.

DUTCH: What other functional testing do you use in your practice?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I’ve been using DUTCH hormone testing for five years to evaluate my patients’ hormone and adrenal health. I use conventional serum testing, as well.

DUTCH: How have you incorporated DUTCH Testing into your practice?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: It is a mainstay in evaluating hormone and adrenal health and function.

DUTCH: What are the changes you have seen in your patients and practice since incorporating the DUTCH Test?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I’m witnessing a bigger, overall picture as it relates to hormonal and adrenal issues and how important this harmony is to general health and well-being. As an example, an eye-opener has been estrogen metabolism regarding Phase 1 and Phase 2 detox.  This applies to both men and women. My male patients have been shocked to see their estrogens elevated to such high levels.

DUTCH: Where do you see functional/ integrative medicine 20 years from now?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I can only see it growing significantly, as the healthcare system as it presently exists “SICK CARE”, is not sustainable. It gives me hope just seeing how much Precision Analytical has grown. When I initially started using DUTCH five years ago, Mark Newman would answer the phone!

DUTCH: What do you like to do outside of work?

Mary Lee Snodgrass, RPh: I enjoy being outside feeding my birds, walking, doing Pilates and Yoga, visiting great restaurants, and enjoying an occasional Kentucky bourbon.
