DUTCH: What inspired you to become a healthcare practitioner?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: I was inspired to become a doctor at a very young age being fascinated by health and the human body and seeing my father practice medicine as an MD.

DUTCH: What is your training?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: I graduated from Touro University School of Osteopathic Medicine in California and then did an Internal Medicine Residency at Carilion Clinic in VA. After practicing as Faculty in the Internal Medicine Department, I began training with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) and became a Diplomate in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine in 2015.

DUTCH: Describe your medical background/ practice?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: I practice full time Integrative/Functional Medicine in a solo practice I founded, Valley Integrative Medicine. I specialize in BHRT, thyroid disorders, metabolic detoxification, and taking a functional medicine approach to chronic medical conditions such as autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, tick borne illness and mold/mycotoxin related illness.

DUTCH: What other functional testing do you use in your practice?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: Depending on the presentation of the patient symptoms and their goals, I incorporate functional gut analysis, nutrient testing, testing for toxins such as heavy metals, volatile solvents and mycotoxin testing.

DUTCH: How have you incorporated DUTCH Testing into your practice?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: I utilize the DUTCH test on all my BHRT patients as well as patients with complaints I believe are related to adrenal dysfunction. I also utilize the DUTCH test on patients with a history of breast cancer and endometriosis to look at how they are metabolizing their hormones and if supplementation is needed to help with their hormone metabolism.

DUTCH: What are the changes you have seen in your patients and practice since incorporating the DUTCH Test?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: I find looking at hormone metabolites very helpful not only in minimizing risks of hormone therapy but also as a marker of the function of the status of their own detoxification pathways.

DUTCH: Where do you see functional/integrative medicine 20 years from now?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: It truly is the medicine of the future and I see it continuing to blossom as more patients are demanding a root cause approach to their health and healing.

DUTCH: What do you like to do outside of work?

Dr. Alicia Hollis: Spend time with my loved ones and exercise.
