Provider Spotlight: R. Joel Rosen, DC, CFMP, DAAIM

R. Joel Rosen, DC, CFMP, DAAIM graduated from McMaster University with a degree in the Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology program. He also earned a second undergraduate degree in Psychology from York University in Ontario Canada, where he was born and raised for the first 28 years of his life. He then went on to attend the Los Angeles College Of Chiropractic from which he graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Dr. Rosen believes his education background being rich and diverse, has provided the requisite tools to keep his patients both healthy and active. His wellness philosophy: patient education and informative teaching, and regular healthy living measures are fundamental components of sound chiropractic health care. Having the good fortune of being from a traditional medical family, he understands the role traditional health care plays with living healthy, but marries the concepts of alternative medicine, to view health as the combination
of physical, mental, spiritual, or ultimately a holistic approach.

DUTCH: What inspired you to become a healthcare practitioner?

Dr. Rosen: I come from a family of traditional medical doctors, so it runs in the family. But when I injured my back, and the option was surgery, I did not accept that. So, I decided to pursue a graduate program in holistic health and become a chiropractic physician.

DUTCH: What is your training?

Dr. Rosen: I have two undergraduate degrees, one in exercise physiology, the other in psychology. Then I graduated from Chiropractic college. I then graduated from functional medicine university, as a certified functional medicine practitioner.

DUTCH: Describe your medical background/ practice?

Dr. Rosen: I combine a nutrigenomic approach to healing. That is, I look at both the genetic and epigenetic components to health. My practice is now serving health clients from all over the world in a digital medicine approach.

DUTCH: What other functional testing do you use in your practice?

Dr. Rosen: We do Ancestry testing, toxicity testing, microbiome testing, and all forms of hormone testing, not just limited to a urine analysis.

DUTCH: How have you incorporated DUTCH Testing into your practice?

Dr. Rosen: Every patient that we work with is dealing with chronic adrenal stress, so we incorporate it with all our patients,

DUTCH: What are the changes you have seen in your patients and practice since incorporating the DUTCH Test

Dr. Rosen: Since incorporating the DUTCH test, we no longer make a conclusion of adrenal hormone function, and overall sex hormone function, based on free fraction hormone alone, which as you know only represents 1-2% or up to 5% depending on who you talk to. Which is a problem, of course, letting a 5% view make a conclusion of a 100% picture.

DUTCH: Where do you see functional/ integrative medicine 20 years from now?

Dr. Rosen: I would like to see it be at the forefront of our healthcare model. However, we have our hands full with a broken insurance-based, pharmaceutically driven model.

DUTCH: What do you like to do outside of work?

Dr. Rosen: I like to exercise, research, spend time with my wife and now 16-year-old twins when they let me. Travel, and experiencing new adventures.
