Precision Analytical Publishes Peer-Reviewed Estrogen Therapy Research in Menopause

[McMinnville, OR] – Precision Analytical, creators of the DUTCH Test and a leading specialty hormone testing lab, announces the publication of their latest study this month in the journal of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), Menopause.

Original Study: Comparative estrogen exposure from compounded transdermal estradiol creams and Food and Drug Administration-approved transdermal estradiol gels and patches

Newman, Mark S. MS; Saltiel, Doreen MD, JD; Smeaton, Jaclyn ND; Stanczyk, Frank Z. PhD

Estrogen therapy is considered the most effective treatment option for both vasomotor symptoms and the genitourinary syndrome of menopause and is commonly prescribed to postmenopausal women.  Transdermal estrogen therapies are a commonly recommended approach, including FDA-approved patches and gels, along with compounded estrogen therapy prescriptions. This research is the first peer-reviewed study to compare these methods of administration.

Key findings in this research show that estrogen exposure from compounded transdermal estradiol (E2) creams increases in a dose-dependent manner; however, the amount of estrogen exposure associated with compounded creams is significantly lower than estrogen exposure associated with FDA-approved transdermal E2 patches and gels.

Additionally, this study highlights the potential clinical validity and utility of urine metabolite testing in the setting of transdermal estrogen replacement therapy, offering a viable alternative to serum sampling, which is fraught with difficulties in a real-world setting.

“At Precision Analytical, we are committed to providing an evidence base for integrative providers to be assured they are making the best clinical choices for their patients. We are thrilled to have this data highlighted in Menopause, and to be able to contribute to the understanding of estrogen replacement therapy approaches”, said Jaclyn Smeaton, ND, Chief Medical Officer at Precision Analytical.

Precision Analytical remains committed to providing top-tier testing backed by validated and peer-reviewed research. This new study adds to an extensive list of past research that supports DUTCH testing methodologies. This commitment to data-driven approaches allows healthcare providers to trust DUTCH to reliably decipher hormones in a way that helps them profoundly change the lives of their patients.
