Frequently Asked Questions about the DUTCH Test

by Precision Analytical Team

What is the DUTCH Test?

The DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) Test is a group of validated tests that provide a complete evaluation of sex and adrenal hormones, including metabolites. Through comprehensive reporting, unparalleled clinical support and education, and peer-reviewed, validated research, DUTCH Providers have the tools and support they need to help solve their patients’ complex hormone-related issues.

What does the DUTCH Test measure?

We have a variety of panels that measure sex hormones , adrenal hormones , organic acids , cortisol , and cycle mapping for cycling women. We also offer the DUTCH Complete ™, which is a bundle that includes the sex hormone, adrenal, and organic acid panels; the DUTCH Plus â , which is a DUTCH Complete™ plus the DUTCH CAR (Cortisol Awakening Response); and DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ PLUS which combines DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ with the DUTCH CAR.

Who should take a DUTCH Test?

Anyone can take a DUTCH Test, but our panels are especially helpful for anyone who wants to address hormone-related symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, and mood swings, or for anyone who wants to optimize their hormone health.

For someone struggling with acne or hair loss, the DUTCH Test can help them understand if their testosterone is high and if they are metabolizing (and "activating") their testosterone into the more androgenic alpha metabolites.

Patients presenting with heavy menses, fibroids, and cyclical breast tenderness may benefit from using the DUTCH Test to evaluate their luteal phase estrogen and progesterone balance as well as their estrogen detoxification pathways, both of which can impact estrogen-related symptoms.

For those struggling with weight loss resistance, the DUTCH Test can help to see if cortisol is elevated and if the diurnal cortisol pattern is suboptimal, both of which can affect weight loss goals. Assessing androgen levels and inflammatory markers such as quinolinate, xanthurenate, and kynurenate on our test may also be helpful, as low testosterone and DHEA may affect our body composition by impacting muscle building and maintenance, and elevated inflammation may impact our overall metabolism and ability to lose extra adipose tissue.

Patients presenting with fatigue, low energy, and low motivation may gain insights from the DUTCH Test by examining their diurnal cortisol pattern, androgen levels, and organic acid markers related to B-vitamins and neurotransmitters like dopamine, all of which may play a role in those symptoms.

The DUTCH Test can also be a helpful tool for menopausal patients monitoring HRT management of symptoms related to hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis.
