LCMS Supervisor

Job Summary:

The LCMS Supervisor is the laboratory's LCMS expert who works under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for the operation, workflow, and supervision of LC-MS/MS instruments, data quantitation, and activities.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an effective culture of laboratory safety. Ensures that the laboratory and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards
  • Responsible for operating, calibrating, maintaining, loading, and running of LC-MS/MS. Prepare standards or reagents that are needed for the analysis procedure
  • Trains lab analysts on operation of LC-MS/MS, standard preparation, and data quantitation and supervises related activities
  • Responsible for batch quantitation and data importing to LIMS for all assays done on LC-MS/MS
  • Responsibly manages the consumable and capital resources of the section, reports the needs to the Laboratory Leadership proactively, and communicates needs and issues with Laboratory Leadership
  • Ensures LC-MS/MS in working order; recognizes malfunctioning equipment and coordinates instrument maintenance, including preventative maintenance, with instrument specialists
  • Maintains quality control records and procedures for each test. Works with the Laboratory Director and Quality Assurance personnel to develop and implement a Laboratory Quality Assurance (LQA) program to assure the reliability and validity of the analytical data produced by LC-MS/MS
  • Completes Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and Preventative Action Reports (PARs) when necessary
  • Effectively prioritizes work for self and team members; keeps leaders informed on daily production progress, issues, etc. as directed
  • Prepare and review SOPs and other documentation; update SOP/SAP to reflect method and workflow changes
  • Follow all laboratory methods, protocols, and SOPs; follow company procedures, guidelines, and policies
  • Demonstrates PA’s Core Values in daily activities and interactions with others

Qualifications & Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in a lab environment with increasing level of responsibility, including 3+ years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS; Waters LC-MS/MS experience is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, and train team members
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory with strict QA and QC programs, and related knowledge preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, and strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent judgment, cognitive skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities; ability to react to situations with a sense of urgency and responsibility
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills; the ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively at all levels, internally and externally

Work Environment:

This position is located in an office/lab environment with frequent use of laboratory instruments and tools, computer and related hardware. A person must be able to stand and/or sit and effectively move around the building and lab workspaces; see, hear and talk, use hands to type, handle, or feel tools or controls, and use hands and arms to reach.

This position requires lifting up to 25lbs, and the use of PPE when working with urine, saliva, or other samples and a variety of lab chemicals.
