Mark Holthouse, MD

Mark Holthouse, MD, received his undergraduate degree in biology and then attended Loma Linda University School of Medicine, graduating in 1990. He did his residency training through the USAF scholarship program at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, in 1993. After passing his boards in family practice, Major Holthouse served as chief of outpatient medicine at Mather and McClellan AFB Hospital from 1993 to 1996. During this same time, Dr. Holthouse also served as a member of the clinical teaching faculty at UC Davis School of Medicine. He opened his own medical practice, Placerville Family Medical Group, in Placerville, California, in 1996.

Dr. Holthouse began studying integrative medical practice in the early 2000s and by 2006 had become certified by the American Board of Holistic and Integrative Medicine at Scripps in San Diego, California. In 2008 he opened the Center for Functional & Integrative Medicine in Cameron Park, California. He was joined by PA and acupuncturist Marc Fierro, expanding what the clinic could offer. In January 2013, he opened True Health Center for Functional Medicine in El Dorado Hills, California, where he practices today.

Dr. Holthouse was in the first graduating class for the Certification in Functional Medicine through The Institute for Functional Medicine. He was appointed as assistant professor of medicine at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in January 2013, where he now teaches preventive cardiometabolic medicine. Dr. Holthouse is also now board certified as a fellow in the newly created subspecialty in integrative medicine by the American Board of Integrative Medicine/American Board of Physician Specialists.
